With the recession still hitting the UK hard, many of us, me included, are looking at cheap European vacations instead of extravagant holidays worldwide.  I recently searched for some last minute deals and found myself booking some cheap flights to Amsterdam.

Why Amsterdam?

I have been to Amsterdam before and it is an absolutely beautiful city.  Don’t go thinking that just because you find some cheap flights to Amsterdam that the rest of your holiday will be expensive.  Of course, it can be, but there are dozens of cheap things to do whilst you are there.

The Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank museum, cheese and wine canal boat rides, coffee shops and ahem interesting entertainment options can all be worked into your budget and some can even be booked before you leave home.  There is also a wide array of budget accommodation available and if you are willing to stay in a hostel or similar you can expect to pay around £20 a night – now that’s cheaper than many of the hotels in the UK!

Other Options

So, if you’re feeling a bit deflated have a look into some European vacations.  Not only are there cheap flights to Amsterdam, but to dozens of other European hotspots too.  Prague, Helsinki, Athens and even Faro!  A week away could be just what you need!
